About Kandee
As a nurse and dog rescuer, Kandee devoted her life to healing and caring. But one day, while making a bed in the hospital, she broke a rib. Her doctor thought it was a freak accident, but after returning to work, she broke seven more ribs. A year and a half of pain later, Kandee was convinced there was something seriously wrong. She was admitted to the ER -- that's when she received her diagnosis: multiple myeloma.
- Lives in Wisconsin
- Born in 1957
- Dialysis nurse (RN)
- Enjoys gardening, working outdoors, going to the movies, and rescuing shelter dogs
When Kandee learned she also had kidney problems, she immediately started treatment and dialysis. The treatments took their toll, however, and Kandee found everyday tasks difficult. She was disappointed that she couldn't do her favorite outdoor activities due to lack of energy. After undergoing a stem cell transplant and later a kidney transplant, Kandee found herself living with her parents, who'd become her strongest support system. With the help of her family, friends, and health care team, she has been able to heal and continues her fight against multiple myeloma.
Today, Kandee lives on her own and enjoys riding her lawn mower on her small farm. As a Millennium Multiple Myeloma Ambassador, Kandee hopes sharing her personal experience will motivate others to seek immediate diagnosis and treatment in the fight against multiple myeloma.
